Early Chinese Thought through a Comparative Lens

This five-week course offers an introduction to ancient Chinese thought through the lens of comparative studies. How have Western concepts, in particular Christian and ancient Greek philosophical ideas, influenced our understanding of early Chinese thought? We will further examine how how our understanding early Chinese thought has been shaped by its long reception history, and how recent discoveries challenge our assumptions. Ultimately, we will reflect on how to approach the ancient Chinese texts through a specialized yet global perspective. Full schedule coming soon.
