Fate and Human Agency in the Ancient World

Fate and Human Agency in the Ancient World

This six-week course offers an introduction to competing ideas of human agency, and its relationship with fate, in the ancient world. How much control do humans have over their lives and environments? How should we guide our lives? If we do have a fate, how should this influence our decisions? This course will examine how thinkers in early China, Greece, and beyond engaged with each of these big questions, while we consider our own answers to them. Full schedule coming soon.
