Imagination in East Asia and Beyond

This 8-week comparative literature course examines the meaning and limits of the “imagination” in the Chinese, Japanese, and English literature. What do we mean by the word “imagination”? How is it stirred by literary forms? We will explore these questions by reading an eclectic selection of texts by Zhuangzi, Li He, Matsuo Bashō, Ema Saikō, William Wordsworth, Natsume Sōseki, William James, Virginia Woolf, and more. Full schedule coming soon.
