I am a political scientist and American Studies scholar by training, with a Ph.D. in American Studies from Heidelberg University, Germany, and over 20 years of teaching experience at Heidelberg, Yale, and Cologne universities. After nearly a decade at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies and Yale, I went freelance and now spend my time as an author, speaker, workshop leader, and consultant on transatlantic relations (across Europe and the US). I have published and co-edited 8 books so far, including on democracy and public discourse in the US and Western societies, a topic I care about a lot and continue to follow closely.

Personal Statement

I like to work at the crossroads of academic research and a broader informed discussion, and I enjoy teaching to this day - also, because I learn a lot myself every time...! I have worked with students from around the world, from different backgrounds, and from different walks of life for almost two decades by now, and I feel that engaging in open and ongoing discussion, with a desire to learn from each other, and with each other, is the best way forward in challenging times. I look forward to seeing you all in my course!
